Whether you’re writing a report, doing research, or just wanting to expand your knowledge, keyword searches don’t always deliver the most applicable and useful results. What if there was a way to change this? Google is tackling this issue right now with the use of natural language processing within the realm of artificial intelligence (AI).
Google’s new search tool, “Talk to Books,” was announced on April 13th, 2018. The new search tool will allow individuals to browse passages from all different book sources, thanks to AI. Moreover, according to Quartz, once a question is inputted into the Talk to Books search engine, over 100,000 Google Books will be scanned to then generate a list of relevant material pertaining to the question.
The AI powered tool makes it easy for users to search, as Talk to Books works more effectively when users speak to it in sentences and in natural language. According to Google, this is because the artificial intelligence is trained to understand human speech, unlike keyword searches.
Additionally, according to Google, Talk to Books may take some practice in order to generate the most desired results. To do so, Google’s Talk to Books webpage has sample questions to play around with, which you can check here. Lastly, it is important to note, Talk to Books is more of a creative tool than a strict research tool, which is what keyword searches are for!
